Are you ready for the holidays? Do you have any Christmas traditions that you do each year with your family or friends? Here are some of my holiday traditions that I do each year with my family!
Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year! What better way to celebrate with family and friends, then with some traditions. Here are some of my Christmas traditions.
MATCHING PJ’S
Wearing matching pj’s on Christmas Day is the perfect way to start the magical festivities. Matching pj’s are great for family photos and custom family Christmas cards that you may share with family and friends. This is an easy tradition and the most comfy.
If you’d like to wear matching pj’s for the entire month of December, then you can buy different pairs.
elf on the shelf
The Elf on the shelf tradition is one that has been used for many years. It is a tradition that is great if you have kids.
I placed the Elf on my kids toy kitchen. In addition, I placed two other Elves in the kitchen hanging from the ceiling in Christmas hot hair balloons.
There are many different ways you can decorate with the Elf such as:
- Elf sitting on the couch
- Elf on the bed
- Elf in a Christmas stocking
- Elf on the Christmas tree
- And much more!
Gingerbread houses
Making gingerbread houses is one of my favorite traditions. This tradition is one where everyone can be involved such as family, friends, and good neighbors. It is a great way to spend quality time and bond with others.
To make things more fun, you can have a gingerbread house contest. Whoever has the best gingerbread house could win a special Christmas gift!
Advent Calendar
Advent calendars are well-known as a staple tradition of Christmas. They help us to countdown the days from December 1 to 25.
My advent calendar has little pouches on each date. You can place a piece of candy, a decoration, or a Bible verse in each pouch.

As you know, I love adding greenery in my home, so I incorporated a wreath. You can make this wreath with supplies from your local craft store, Michaels, or Walmart.
Cookie making
Baking is one of the most special traditions during the holiday season! Cookies are great for Christmas Day or holiday parties. You can fill your cookie jar with delicious homemade cookies of many flavors such as:
- Sugar Cookies
- Chocolate Chip
- Oatmeal Raisin
- Shortbread
- Gingerbread
Decorating cookies is a great activity to do with the kids.
Simple Arts and Crafts
Arts and crafts is a great way to spend time with your children during the holidays. It is also an inexpensive way to make your own Christmas decorations.
I created a simplistic pom pom string banner that I hung over the fireplace mantle. It matches the overall aesthetic with our Christmas stockings.
I hope my Christmas traditions have inspired you. Do you do any of these traditions with family and friends? I’d love to hear from you. Leave a comment below!
