Hi Everyone! Today’s blog is going to focus on the plans and ideas I have for my wardrobe closet.
My desire to arrange my closet started out about a year ago. After a year of living within yoga pants and sweats, which is our new normal, I knew it was time to purge. We have had the builder grade setup for several years now and it just doesn’t work well for me.
I felt it was time to start a capsule wardrobe, which is something that has been on my bucket list for a long time.I tend to stick with neutral colors and add a few layers here and there.
I did one for summer and fall 2021. But, it wasn’t quite organized to pull off a winter closet. Check out my summer capsule and fall capsule blogs.
Luckily, we live in Texas and have warmer winters. The bulky sweaters and coats from my Gap days could be put to good use in someone else’s closet.
While life can get chaotic, I know I work and feel much better when my spaces are organized. I have done smaller spaces in my home such as a pantry closet and craft closet to create function and out of necessity. They have worked so well for us. Check out my pantry closet and craft closet blogs.
I started by cleaning out everything and taking it to our guest room, except shoes as those have been relegated to the top shelves. The plan was to take stock of what I had left and be intentional about how they were brought back in.
I also purged about 50% of my closet and planned to do another 20%. Y’all, I still have dresses from my college days that either fit or are one size too small. I had to let go of the dream of fitting into some of these pieces. I am keeping a few but majority are gone.
As I kept purging, I started thinking of ways to make my current setup work for me.
It became clear that if I really wanted to be successful in my closet organizing and capsule stage, I needed to change the layout. Then life happened.
A lot of life happened in 2021, so here we are with a half done closet, and a guest room that looks like something out of a hoarding show.
Today, I’m sharing with you plans to tackle this closet. As much as I love to DIY, I am learning to delegate a lot more. In order to be successful and have this completed in a timely fashion, I am hiring it out.

Here are sketches of the plans.
my ideas
The key things I’ll be bringing in are a shoe wall. Shoes are a big deal to me and this helps with function. There will be a combination of hanging rods, drawers, cabinets, and cubbies. I will also have an area with a mirror.
We have 10 ft. ceilings and I also have the built-ins going all the way up to maximize the space.
I would love to have a place to store my accessories and jewelry. I’m not a big jewelry person, but it’s nice to have everything in one area and accessible when needed.

I looked at the layout and gathered inspo from the web. Here are two closets I love.

While my space is much smaller, I’ll be pulling some elements I love from these spaces and much more.
I’m excited to get this done in the first quarter of the year. Stay tuned for updates on the process!
