If this is your first time stopping by on this blog, Hello- my name is Torie and I’m a home design and DIY enthusiast, here to help you with practical affordable solutions as you make your house a home.
I like to give real-life examples based on my home and the projects that I’m currently working on. One of my favorite things to do is to prepare my home for each new season by updating the decor and adding some seasonal touches. It’s also a great opportunity to purge and declutter so you can get rid of items you’ve been holding unto for too long.
In this post, I’ll be bringing you along on the latest in my Home Tour Series by sharing my Simple Summer Home Tour.
The 2021 Summer Home Tour
As we approach the summer months, my main task was to refresh the main living areas while purging, cleaning out the closets, and creating a summer capsule wardrobe.
The vibe that I’m going for this summer is classic, elegant and simple. I like to keep my home decorated in a neutral palette as I think it sets a great foundation that you can build from every season. It also allows you to be more adventurous with the decor pieces. You can bring in different elements and colors each season.
This year, I also focused on incorporating one of my favorite colors for summer home decor. I used a lot of blue tones throughout the house which added a pop of color to the otherwise neutral and simple decor.
I’m also looking to also incorporate more dark tones into my spaces. You’ll see as we go through the tour that I’ve added more dark-toned decorative pieces. This includes items such as the black vase and black side table.
The summer home tour will be focused on the main floor of the house. I’ll walk you through how I decorated the living room, dining room, kitchen, and breakfast nook for the summer months.

My go-to decorating trick for pretty much any season is to add fresh florals and greenery. It’s inexpensive and all you need is some natural light and water for upkeep! They also bring so much joy and life into the home, so that’s the first thing that I usually update when redecorating for the season. This summer decor is no different. You’ll see a lot of greenery as I walk you through the summer home tour.
the entryway
I always like to start my home tours with the entryway because it’s the first thing you see when you come into the home.
One of my favorite places to decorate is this entryway console. It’s classic and neutral, so you can style it as much or as little as your heart desires. For this seasonal update, I style it with vases and florals. I also kept the same wicker baskets that I’ve shared in previous home tours.
I kept the blue theme going with the vase and added some beautiful florals to liven up space.

Dining Room
The way our house is laid out, the dining room is the first room you see when you walk into the house. It’s important for me to make this room warm and inviting.
One of my favorite projects that I completed in our house to date is this dining room. I revamped the dining room last year during the 2020 One Room Challenge. You can see what it used to look like here.
There were several changes made to the dining room including the accent walls and wooden beams on the ceiling. I really like the way everything turned out. It makes it very easy to decorate the space as the foundation is already very beautiful.
For our summer home decor, I kept much of the decor in the dining room the same. I added a few new decorative pieces that tie in with the rest of the blue colour scheme throughout the other rooms in the house.

The Living Room
The living room is one of my favorite rooms in our entire home. It’s a space where our family spends a lot of time. We love to hang out here, watch tv or play games, so it was important to make the living room as comfy and family-friendly as possible. For summer, I chose to keep the decor simple and allow it to flow with the rest of the house.
I changed up a lot of the centerpieces and added a beautiful new floral arrangement to the coffee table.
The mantlepiece is the main focal point in our living room. It looks quite different from what it did during the Spring Home Tour. You’ll notice the large black vase next to the round mirror. This is a new addition to our vase collection. I love how the dark tones contrast against the walls and the rest of the decor.
Even though dark tones may not be the first thing you think about when it comes to summer home decor, I think this works very nicely- especially coupled with greenery.

The Kitchen
Our kitchen is the heart of the home. I love the fact that it’s an open concept so we were able to do a lot of entertaining around the kitchen counter.
I tried to keep the seasonal additions to the kitchen minimal and natural. The main thing I did in the kitchen was to switch up the vases and the floral arrangements. I also added touches of blue through the vases.

The Breakfast Nook
The breakfast nook is another one of my favorite spaces in the house. The huge windows let in plenty of sunlight in the summer. I also love sitting here and watching my kids playing in the garden.
For the summer decor, I switched up the floral arrangements to bring in a more summery vibe. I also added the navy blue blanket to the blanket ladder. This ties in with the other blue accents throughout the house.
