Welcome to Week 7 of our One Room Challenge. We’re just one week away from the big reveal and I’m really excited to share that with you.

I’ve talked a lot about the planning that went into this bedroom makeover, the various DIY projects that I’ve done. If you are interested in learning more about these, I encourage you to catch up on previous week’s posts.
This week, we are talking about all things decor. I absolutely love home decor as I feel that the right pieces can really transform a space.
My home decor style can be classified as neutral chic. I love neutral tones and often lean towards neutral pieces when decorating the various rooms in my home.
Lately, I have been loving the darker tones and have slowly started introducing them into my home. I feel that the darker tones add a ton of texture and interest to any space. What started as Pinterest boards filled with dark wall ideas is slowly turning into a reality. Needless to say, the darker color palette is a bit out of my comfort zone, but I think that with the right furnishings it will still have a peaceful ambiance.
As with all of the projects that I’ve done, this master bedroom makeover is a labor of love. I put a lot of time and effort into it, making sure that I was picking the right pieces to make the space come alive.

The Bed
The bed is one of the first things that we decided to update when it came to redecorating our master bedroom. It’s the same bed that we used in our first home together. It had served us well over the past 18 years, but it was time for something new with this revamp.
The new bed is one that I’ve had my eye on for a while. It’s from Bed Bath and Beyond and I found the perfect opportunity to get it during a Black Friday sale last year. It arrived several months ago. We immediately put it together and have been living with mismatched furniture ever since, as I figured out the final touches to the space.
We will be donating our old furniture to our local thrift store.
Bedding
On the bedding front, I’m still patiently waiting for my duvet and shams to arrive. Shopping for sheets always stresses me out. There are so many kinds to choose from and settling on the perfect one can prove difficult. Nonetheless, I’ve been able to find several that have worked for us in the past. I look forward to these ones I recently ordered arriving.
The Lamps
These lamp bases were pretty much love at first sight. I first set eyes on them 3 years ago and I knew that I just had to get them even though I didn’t have a home for them just yet.
They have been patiently sitting in the attic, waiting for their big debut (which has finally arrived).
These lamps go really well with our new bedroom furniture, but I love that they are also transitional. They can fit with a variety of styles.
The Drapes
Ohh the drapes!
I’ve previously shared the struggles I faced when it came to deciding what to do about the window treatments.
We knew that we wanted to get room darkening drapes since we’ve been getting a lot of sunlight early in the morning.
I like to think that you can create a beautiful home without spending a fortune. I like to keep things budget-friendly when I am doing my home projects with a few splurges in between when necessary.
As you know, good-quality drapes can cost a pretty penny, so I had my work cut out for me. I wanted to find something that was good quality, but still budget-friendly.
When I stumbled upon these drapes, I ordered two colors- Oyster and Birch.
I ended up using the Birch color as it has more of a warmer tone and fits in better with the rest of the decor and furniture.
These drapes are so heavy and of great quality. The reviews are excellent and I can already tell that it checks off all the boxes without putting it up. Best of all, the price is amazing for the quality.
The Rug
I partnered with Mohawk Home for the bedroom rug. This company specializes in making rugs in all shapes and sizes. Their products can be found at Target and I this masterpiece for the bedroom. I fell in love with this rug the moment I saw it and knew it would go really well with the rest of the furniture I had planned.
As much as I like the modern vibe, I also like to mix in some traditional with the new. This rug brings in a more traditional element to the space which I absolutely adore.
It has warm tones and also subtle hues of grayish-green mixed in. I also receive the Rug pad to go along with the area rug. The rug pad is made with recycled products and is of great quality. It keeps the rug in place without the edges curling up.
Overall, I couldn’t be happier with this rug and how it pulls everything together.
Storage
I like to use storage baskets to store things such as extra pillows and blankets for the bedroom.
Store bedding and pillows and night time including my weighted blanket. (which is the best thing ever. It has helped tremendously with a good night’s sleep.) The baskets are of such great quality and I love the under-bed storage option.
Other things I Crossed Off My to-do list this week
This past week was pretty slow as I focused on another major project- I hung the fan and TV.
So What’s Left on my to-do list?
- Finish up dresser and nightstands
- Hang Drapes
- Refinish the frame for some artwork.
(I have a last-minute itch to refinish a frame for some artwork. So I’ll be headed to my local thrift store this week to see what I can find. If nothing, we will stick with the original plan and can’t wait to show you.)
I keep repeating this, but we’re so close to being done and I am so excited! Be sure to check back next week for the big reveal.
